Books for Toddlers

Toddlers enjoy books with elaborate stories, animals, and objects that talk. They love pop-up books with interactive features.

Children love repeating familiar phrases in their favorite books. For example:

“Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me I am the Gingerbread Man.”

“They pulled and they pulled, and they couldn’t pull out the enormous turnip.”

Repetition boosts language acquisition and promotes early literacy:

  • Ask children to identify the pictures that go with the written words and invite them to join in familiar rhymes and songs
  • Be prepared to read a cherished story over and over again and help children discover something new each time.
